Minister Stefanović Meets Military Athletes
Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović PhD met a delegation of the Republic of Serbia to the International Military Sports Council (CISM), members of the Sports Unit of the Minister of Defence, cadets and students of military schools with whom he discussed about further development of sports in the armed forces.
Minister Stefanović offered his gratitude to everyone for the achieved results, pointing to the significance of sports in the armed forces starting from the increase in the level of psychological and physical capabilities to worthy representation of our armed forces and Serbia at competitions worldwide.
“I am exceptionally proud both of our athletes and cadets and students, who, besides their regular obligations, achieve supreme results, and bring us joy every now and then with a medal or broken records at competitions in the country and all over the world. Today,we considered the ways in which we can support them even more, because they truly do deserve it”, the minister said.
On this occasion, members of the Sports Unit, Karatist Jovana Preković, Taekwondoist Tijana Bogdanović, skier Nevena Ignjatović, Judoist Aleksandar Kukolj and shooter Dimitrije Grgić, and cadets and students of military schools who are already achieving results one after another at numerous championships presented their impressions and ideas for the enhancement of conditions for practicing sports in the armed forces and further directions of development to Minister Stefanović.
Lieutenant Colonel Negovan Ivanković PhD, Head of the Delegation to CISM, informed the minister about the results of the membership of Serbia of the International Military Sports Council, which gathers armed forces from the total of 140 countries of the world, stating that our teams have brought 84 medals from 110 military competitions, but, apart from the results, the participation in these competitions contributes to the increased interoperability of our armed forces.
Rector of the University of Defence Lieutenant General Goran Radovanović PhD expressed his gratitude on behalf of all the present to Minister Stefanović for unselfish support to work and results of the military athletes.
Today’s meeting was also attended by Head of Private Office of the Minister of Defence Colonel Stevan Kotarlić, Head of the Military Academy Colonel Srđan Blagojević PhD, Head of Military Grammar School Navy Captain Miroslav Ćitić, Head of Physical Education and Sport Centre of the Military Academy Colonel Slađan Veljković, Commander of Cadet Brigade Lieutenant Colonel Milan Končar, Head of Military Vocational High School Commander Srđan Miljković, Head of Section for Military Sport Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Todorov and trainer of the Sport Unit Captain Goran Čegar.
