Celebration of the Serbian Armed Forces Day

A military ceremony was organized in the Barracks “General Jovan Mišković” on the occasion of the 23^rd of April, the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces.



The Serbian Armed Forces celebrate its holiday on the 23^rd of April to mark the day when in 1815, on the holiday Cveti, the decision was made to start the Second Serbian Uprising for the liberation of Serbia from the Ottoman Empire. That date was recognized as one of the historic milestones which led to the creation of modern Serbian state and enabled the creation of efficient and modern Serbian army.

The ceremony was attended by the Rector of the University of Defence Brigadier General Professor Boban Đorović, PhD, with his associates, the Board of the Commandants of the Military Academy, the cadets, the Course of Reserve Officers attendants, the attendants of the Command and Staff Course and the General Staff Course of the National Defence School “Vojvoda Radomir Putnik”, as well as the Unievrsity of Defence personnel.



The ceremony was initiated by welcoming of the colour guard platoon and playing of the national anthem of the Republic of Serbia, performed by the cadet Marijana Bojić, later the congratulations were read and the speech was held regarding the significance of celebrating the Serbian Armed Forces Day.
 
The Rector of the University of Defence Brigadier General Professor Boban Đorović congratulated the holiday to the members of the University of Defence and emphasized that the history of development of modern Serbia confirmed the fact that the development of the Serbian Armed Forces and the development of military education are interconnected, and that we should be proud of our past and be aware that nowadays we educate ourselves in order to be strong in the future.



The decisions on rewards and commendations were read at the military ceremony by which the Minister of Defence, the Rector of the University of Defence Rector and the Commandant of the Military Academy paid their respect to the most meritorious members of the Serbian Armed Forces on the occasion of the Serbian Armed Forces Day.

On the occasion of the Serbian Armed Forces Day ceremonies were held in the Military Grammar School and the Military Secondary Vocational School “1300 Kaplara”.
