Future SAF pilots’ flight training
Flight training is underway at the military airfield Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović in Batajnica and the surrounding area for officers who have completed the Aviation Reserve Officers Course and Military Academy cadets attending the Military Aviation Study Program.
The training program is being conducted with Lasta trainer aircraft and the instructors responsible for delivering it are the 252nd Training Squadron flight instructors. The aim is to teach the future pilots to fly this aircraft on their own. For the cadets, it is a prerequisite for moving on to advanced training with the Super Galeb G-4 trainer-combat aircraft, and for aviation officers who have completed the course, for earning the title of a SAF pilot and retraining with other types of aircraft.
The program includes basic, navigation, aerobatic and instrument flying. The trainees are practicing landing and taking off in somewhat complex weather conditions. They embarked on the flight training process fully prepared, having previously completed the ground training and training in aircraft mechanics.
V-54 Lasta is a single-engine trainer aircraft intended for basic and a portion of advanced pilot training. With its modern, digital avionics and flight characteristics, it is suitable for training in basic, aerobatic, navigation, group, instrument and night flying.
