Today the students of military high schools and the cadets of the Military Academy and the Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy celebrated the Republic of Serbia’s National Day and visited Orašac and organized a ceremony at Kopaonik.

- Besides quality teaching carried out in military schools, special emphasis is placed on nurturing our traditions and learning about our glorious history. That’s why we are here today, on the holiday of Sretenje, the day when the First Serbian Uprising started, to celebrate the National Day of the Republic of Serbia at one of the most significant historical places for our homeland. This is the day when we remember our history and pay homage to our glorious ancestors and teach future officers and NCOs, who are educated and trained in military high schools, to tread bravely through their life and military career and to conduct themselves so as to be worthy of their ancestors, said Colonel Blagojević.

During sightseeing along with interesting story of the tour guide, the students, the cadets and their commanders learned about the 19th century Serbia, the life and work of Karađorđe Petrović, the great battles which took place back at the time, and how the military was organized during that period, thus revising old and acquiring new knowledge.

The second-grade students of the Military Grammar School and the Secondary Vocational Military School “1300 Kaplara” and the cadets of the second year of the Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy are carrying out their training in winter conditions in this period at the 51st ski obstacle course at Kopaonik, where they also organized a ceremony on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Serbia.

On the ski obstacle course plateau a speech was held reminding everyone gathered of the importance and significance of today’s date, by stating facts and events from our glorious history and emphasizing their importance for the development of modern Serbian state.

- Today, we are celebrating the National Day, the day when the First Serbian Uprising started and the day when the first Serbian Constitution was adopted. On this day Serbian peasants, who would later become new-century Serbian army, gathered in Orašac in Marićevića jaruga and started the first revolution in the Balkans, the first organized combat against the Turkish Empire in the Balkans, read the emcees.

The appropriate speech regarding the importance of the holiday of Sretenje for Serbian people and glorious Serbian history was complemented by carefully planned cultural and artistic performances of our talented students. The lines of famous Serbian poets and patriotic music echoed through the plateau and the ceremony’s atmosphere was worthy of the sentence devoted to our homeland and which left the biggest impression on the audience: “While there are such generations under your eagle wings, the tricolour would fly high! We protect you, we will never fail you!”
