High school students visit Military Academy

High schools students from Apatin, Vrbas and Varvarin visited today the Military Academy’s classrooms, dormitories and sports facilities, and learned first-hand what the educational process of future Serbian Armed Forces officers looks like. 



The guests were welcomed by the Commandant of the Military Academy, Colonel Srđan Blagojević, PhD, and were then briefed by the hosts about the ongoing competition for enrolment in military schools, the criteria and the selection process that the candidates have to go through to become cadets. Next, they visited the Military Academy’s memorial room, aviation and motor vehicle labs, virtual shooting range and the Sports Centre.

Today’s visit made a lot of the students want to become a cadet. One of them is Nemanja Milješić, who is thinking of applying to the Military Academy and singles out the virtual shooting range as the most interesting part of the visit.  

Lieutenant Colonel Željko Jokić, professor at the Military Academy’s Army Weapons and Military Equipment Department, showed the guests how the Military Academy cadets train shooting pistols and the M70 automatic rifle.



- We have shown them the very process of learning about a certain weapon. They were able to see the entire training process, from how to take the shooting position to the shooting itself - said Lieutenant Colonel Jokić.
 
The cadets did their best to make the guests feel comfortable during their visit to this higher education institution, and were available for any questions.  

Ilija Anđelić, a second-year cadet of the Military Academy, says that this is a good way for students coming from civilian schools to learn about and see the benefits of studying at this higher education institution.
 
-  The Military Academy provides excellent conditions. Education at the Military Academy is free of charge, and various workshops are available to cadets, as well as the use of the swimming pool and the shooting range, which is equipped with the latest technology - said Anđelić.
 
The visit to the Military Academy was organized in collaboration with representatives of the municipalities of Apatin, Vrbas and Varvarin and the Sports Federations of these towns. 



Besides high school students from Apatin, Vrbas and Varvarin, Anđela Milojević, a thirteen-year-old girl who has won more than 200 medals in karate competitions, and who wishes to continue her education in one of the military schools, also visited the Military Academy today.

- I am currently in the seventh grade, but I am already preparing to enrol in the Military High School, and then I would like to finish the Military Academy. My role model is Jovana Preković, who is a member of the Military Academy Sports Unit - says this young karateka who, during her visit to the Military Academy, had the opportunity to spar with Olympic and world champion and a member of the Sports Unit, Jovana Preković.
